Two Loving Arms

This is another Valentine's Day card from my collection. It was printed in the USA in the 1940's. Isn't this just the sweetest Card? (sigh) Such a romantic notion.

With One Good Eye...

This is definitely a card which might be sent by a little boy to someone he greatly admires! The card was printed in Canada sometime in the late 1940's. I thinke he's cute...he kind of looks like Grumpy in Walt Disney's Snow White!

I love his sword, those shiny shoes--however, his girth, humongous nose and eye patch, could conceivably put a dampener on this funny pirate's invitation.

Hope I Can Catch You

Isn't the perspective of this Valentine's Day card wonderful? The eyes move from side to side along with the extended arm with baseball glove. I love these moveable cards. You can see the tiny rivet which allows movement.
.
I'm not sure about the year in which it was made--but I LOVE the look on his face. He looks so hopeful and a tad aggressive! I also like his adorable feet and that bright yellow shirt is really cute.

Hangin' Around

My Grandmother Jenny kept every birth announcement and shower invitation sent to her. This is a birth announcement for my cousin David sent in 1957. It is stained and crumpled a bit--but I thought it was quite unusual.

Check out that baby hanging by his armpits in the upper corner! From the look on his face, baby David doesn't seem to like the idea of hanging on ribbons in the buff very much!

Stretching the Truth

This Valentine's Day Card, made in the USA in the late 1930's is another of my favorites. Isn't this kitty cute? Love those fluffy undies and high heels.
.
This winking beauty has a missing part--it is her paw, which, with a lever on the other side of the card, would have moved to stretch the chewing gum.

Love Makes the Weather

Here is another Valentine card from my collection. This card was made in the USA in the late 1930's. I love the barometer and that saucy young man's yellow jacket bee shirt--not to mention those funny shoes he's wearing.

I thought this card would be especially appropriate -- it seems here in America that Winter and Spring are having a DREADFUL row!

Sweet Little Friend -Postcard Friendship Friday

This little Spaniel reminds me of a stuffed dog I had when I was a little girl. It had long soft hair which I would brush until it shone. I wanted a real dog just like her. I named her Fluffy.

When I was a teenager my youngest brother used to take her from my room to sleep with at night. I remember being SO annoyed at the time--but now that I'm older I think its rather darling.

I loved that little boy so much.

A Speedy Recovery

This card is for Jann, who has been very ill. I'm so glad to see she's back and blogging again!

We have all been so worried for you--I'm glad to hear you are on the mend! May you have a VERY speedy recovery, Jann!

Queen of Hearts

Time to break out some more Valentines from my vintage Valentine Card collection! This one is so cute--it was printed in the USA sometime in the late 1920's. One of the more unique characteristics of this card is that her eyelids actually open and close! She can flutter her eyelashes!

I love the way her feet, in those patent leather shoes, are slightly turned inward. I adore her sausage curls and bit of pink ruffle peeking from beneath her VERY short skirt.

Hey Sissy! This one's for you--the Queen of Hearts!

It's Awful When You're Sick...

This card is one of a wonderful collection given to me by my sweet Sis Clytie. The cards are large and come in their own pastboard box. I treasure her precious gift so much.
.
This morning, along with so many people I know who've had this terrible flu, my darling husband has come down with it hard. Poor fellow--I'm busy plying him with honey tea, meds and an occasional hot toddy. And yet he keeps on working--what shall I do with him? Tch tch tch!
.
It truly is an awful thing to be sick, especially when there is so much yet to be done. So--sweet hard-working husband of mine--GET WELL QUICK!

Happy New Years! This is Me at Three

In my collection, are these goofy animal postcards I picked up when I was in my 20's. This one hits my funny bone, because I believe it looks as I must have, as we pulled into the driveway around three this morning! I am NOT a night person! We hallooed in the new year over at our friend's shop, after which we watched a western called Bite the Bullet. Great movie! Just went a little late...hence my befrazzlement. (grin)

This is a baby black crowned night heron. Isn't this baby just ghoulish looking?!

Happy New Year!
