A Happy Christmas - Guest Heart Thursday #251

I love this artist's work.  This young girl looks so much like my sweet Friend Emily.  Those eyes, that lovely face, that heart-shaped mouth--they're so familiar!

We had a wonderful Christmas.  I know people have been praying for me and for my family.  I'm so grateful--God heard your prayers for us.  Thank you--you know who you are.  ((HUGS))  I pray your Christmas was a happy one, too.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Santa's Disguise - Postcard Friendship Friday #250

I found this unusual Christmas postcard years ago on my friend Jann's blog.  Though my life has been filled with tears over the past few months, this postcard made me smile.

Who would have thought old Saint Nick was in truth a coy little cherub such as this???  So darling and sweet.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday and Merry Christmas, dear Friends.

Christmas Greetings!? -Postcard Friendship Friday #249

Good morning, I'm so sorry to be late putting up Postcard Friendship Friday.  It has been pretty hectic this morning--with everything which I must do before the end of the year.  (sigh)  Thank you for your prayers, friends.

This postcard hit my funny bone. The only one who looks normal is the little girl. The pop up guy is kind of scary looking and that doll's eyes seem rather demented. It looks like those kittens are not too sure about the whole business. Especially the kitten peeking around from the side.  Isn't that just a hoot?

May God bless you, and Merry Christmas!

Joyous Noel -Postcard Friendship Friday #248

Here is another Tucks postcard, printed around the turn of the last century. This lovely little girl's unique heart and spirit have sparkled from her face and eyes for nearly 100 years. I find that idea to be fascinating. I can't help wondering about who she was, and what her life was like. There is something so precious and rare about her.

If anyone knows anything about her family and history, I would love to hear from you.

I apologize for getting Postcard Friendship Friday out so late, it has been a difficult month for my family and me.  God bless you and give you a blessed Christmas holiday.

Kiss the Pumpkin, my dear; For pumpkin Pie is on the Menu -Postcard Friendship Friday #247

What a darling little girl.  Her hat and over sized apron are so cute.  I have a feeling she might just give that brave pumpkin face a hug and a kiss!  Perhaps that pumpkin will become a prince?  I would think kissing a pumpkin would be much more pleasant than kissing a frog!  (Actually, I know this from experience as a little girl) (don't ask) (grin)

This is indeed a Halloween card, but it brought back memories of what we did with all those lovely carved pumpkins.  When I was younger and more ambitious, the pumpkins were cut into pieces and cooked down for hours in a large pan until their consistency was perfect for pumpkin pies.  Those pumpkin pies were the very best, especially with whipped Cream.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, and Happy Thanksgiving!

God bless you dear ones.  Count your blessings, sweet Friends.  Even when hard times happen--there are still blessings to be found.

Thank you so much for your sweet comments last week.  Thank you for your prayers, my family and I have felt them.  Thank you.

I Miss You -Postcard Friendship Friday #245

Early Thursday morning, October 30th, I lost the love of my life.

I know lots of people are not comfortable with the loss of a loved one and the story of what happened.  However, my husband left in such a beautiful way, I wanted to share it with you.  If you are uncomfortable with reading this account--I truly, deeply understand.  ((HUGS))

I knew something was wrong and I felt uneasy, so the cat and I sat beside him, as he slept in his big chair.  Suddenly he clutched the top part of his chest and said he was in awful pain.  A moment later, his eyes grew large, and he gasped as though he saw something indescribably wonderful.

I called 911, and I performed CPR until the ambulance came.  Our dear children were able to arrive before he left for the hospital, and we were together there when he flew away to heaven.

As we were hugging and kissing him goodbye--telling him what a wonderful husband and father he was,  what a great job he had done and how much we loved him--to be at peace and to not worry about us--the walls of the emergency room were lined with those who had fought so hard to save him.  We sang his favorite songs and held him as long as we could.  Those wonderful people surrounded us....their heads bowed, hands folded, many with tears running down their faces.  After a time, they trickled from the room--but stayed close by in the hallway.

As we were getting ready to leave, the head RN came in and said, "We see a lot of these, but it is rare to find a family with such love for one another, who handled this moment with such great beauty, love and dignity."  Then he gave us his card and said, "If you need anything let us know."

I have been married to this wonderful man for 31 wonderful years.   Alan is the love of my life.  I want to share something beautiful that happened to me early Saturday morning. As I lay trying to sleep, a small sweet breeze slid across my face...and then his dear lips pressed against mine.  My husband kissed me goodbye.

Alan was a servant of God and He loved people. He wanted everyone to know God loved them too, and so I am passing his message on to you--God loves you.  He longs to know you, God wants to share His son and the world He created for you--in a whole different way than you've ever known.

Dear precious friends--may God bless you with joy--even in the midst of great sorrow.

Goodbye My Love -Postcard Friendship Friday #244

My sweet Friends.  I am so sorry for not posting earlier.  Thursday morning my husband of 31 years flew home to be with the Savior he loves.  He died very suddenly early in the morning.

I hardly know what to write, except to ask for your prayers for me and my precious family as we learn to live our lives without dear Alan.  Blessings and love to each of you, dear ones.

Heart Hat -Guest Heart Thursday

I adore drawings and artwork from this time in history.  She looks a lot like drawings of the Gibson Girls which were popular around that time.  Then, large eyes, rosebud lips and peaches and cream skin were the ideal.  This young lady, with her heart hat seemed just perfect for Guest Heart Thursday.

Have a lovely weekend!

A Merry Halloween -Postcard Friendship Friday #243

It is hard to realize that October is nearly over.  Halloween is only a week away--children will dress up in all kinds of interesting costumes to trick or treat around the neighborhood.  It is especially fun to watch the small children--running from house to house for treats, followed by their protective parents.  The glee on their faces is something to see.

On another note, our chimney is about halfway up the side of the house.  It will be so wonderful to have heat again.  We are expecting another rainy windstorm tomorrow.  I do love a storm--but not as much when it is cold in the house.  Ah, but in a few weeks, all this will be in the past and we will be toasty warm beside the wood stove.

A Merry Halloween to you and have a lovely weekend, dear friends.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Please Get Off My Stool -Postcard Friendship Friday #242

I apologize for the lateness of my post today.  I have had computer problems all morning long.  Thank goodness, I finally was able to take care of all that and finally post Postcard Friendship Friday!  Thank you for your patience.

Here is one of my favorites--she sure looks like a Kewpie Doll.  I adore Kewpie Dolls.  I was given a lovely little Kewpie doll from the distant past, likely one of the very first, as she is made of bisque with moving arms.

Have a lovely day, dear friends.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Hallowe'en Greetings -Postcard Friendship Friday #241

I have posted this wonderful postcard in days past--but I love it so much I'm posting it again.  This artist captured something quite remarkable in this painting.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

We are still in the midst of the chimney and fireplace replacement--in fact, as I write this, the repairmen have pulled into the driveway, so I'm making this short and sweet! (grin)

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Postcard  Friendship Friday!

Many Happy Returns of the Day

I don't know where I found this darling postcard, but I thought I'd share it with you today.  Such a cutie kitten hiding in the bouquet of Lily of the Valley.

In my garden, the Lily of the Valley bloom from early April until June.

Have a lovely Lord's day!

My Fair Lady Rose -Postcard Friendship Friday #240

I apologize for the lateness of this post. We had a chimney fire some time back.  Repairs are finally underway.  The chimney is gone now and the noise of the work they've been doing is deafening!  I don't mind--it is the sound of progress.  I hope you will still join us today--even though I'm a bit late in posting.

It has been so warm in our part of the world, the roses are still in full bloom.  This lovely Lady Rose seemed a perfect tribute to today's beautiful sunshine and balmy temperatures.

The past five years or so, the rain started mid-September and didn't stop until late Spring.  Grandpa used to call bright and warm October weather an "Indian  Summer."  I loved his quaint phrases--things such as calling an ice storm, a "silver thaw."

If you are here in the Pacific Northwest, enjoy the sun whilst you can and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Autumn is Here -Postcard Friendship Friday #239

I love this postcard--this girl is magnificent in her Autumn array.  She's just perfect for today's Postcard Friendship Friday.  It is hard to believe only a week and a half ago, it was over 90 degrees outside!  On the official first day of Fall, an Autumn storm swept through, and it has been storming off and on ever since.

It has been a hard week for a number of reasons--May the remainder of this week be pleasant and sweet for all of you, dear ones.

Enjoy the crisp Fall air, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday.

Comfort in Sadness

Today our lifetime friend Dan lost his little grandson in a tragic accident--these dear ones have already born so much heartache in their lives.  I hardly know what to say, or what to do.  Please pray for our friends Dan and Judy, and the parents of this precious little boy, Daniel.

May God comfort them in their grief.

Thank you for your prayers, dear ones.

Talk Like A Pirate Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #238

Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.  This strange holiday was created in 1995 by John Baur, otherwise known as Ol’ Chumbucket and Mark Summers, known as Cap’n Slappy.  Both men are from Albany, Oregon where on this day many folks greet one another with “Ahoy, me matey!”

The holiday began as a result of an in injury during a racquetball game between Summers and Bauer, one of whom reacted to the pain with by shouting, Aaaaarrrr!  Thus the idea was born.

At first it was an inside joke between two friend.  But the holiday gained exposure when they wrote a letter about their invented holiday to the American syndicated humor columnist Dave Barry in 2002. Barry liked the idea and promoted the day. Growing media coverage of the holiday after Barry's column has ensured that this event is now celebrated internationally.

In the United States, Michigan and California have officially recognized the holiday.  To its credit, Krispy Kreme gives out free doughnuts to people who talk and/or dress like pirates today, and Long John Silver's has a similar promotion.

So if you see a pirate or two wandering the streets, it isn’t Halloween yet, it’s just a bunch of pirates talking fun, likely from Albany, Oregon.

Ahoy me maties!  And Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!  (I apologize for the lateness of this upload--blogger was having some problems.)

Milkshake Kisses -Postcard Friendship Friday #237

I know this is a strawberry soda, or perhaps an old fashioned milkshake--but I chose this postcard, because I couldn't find one which would exactly fit today's fabulous holiday.

Hurrah!  It’s Chocolate Milkshake Day!  Though no one knows when this holiday began, or who started it, one must admit chocolate milkshake in September has a lot of charm.  Especially here in Oregon, where we have experienced record-breaking heat this summer.

There's more good news--I have heard it said that on this day, a chocolate milkshake has no calories.  Now that is good news indeed!

Have a lovely weekend, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!
