The Girl He Left Behind -Postcard Friendship Friday #323

What a commentary on the bravery of those women left behind to work and support their men as they went to war. World War 2 changed so many things. Women went to work in factories, riveting together planes and machines of war, and at the same time they changed diapers, and raised their children.

Indeed she IS a WOW! I admire those women. They changed our entire world.  These are the women who paved the way for the rest of us.  Thank you.

I apologize for missing last week's PPF.  It was a difficult time for me.  Setting that aside, sweet Friends, I pray you have a lovely weekend.  Blessings and smiles to you, dear ones.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Carnation Faery -Postcard Friendship Friday #322

My peace and joy,
Their sunshine lend,
to Thee, my dearest
earthly Friend.

I adore carnations--there's something so cheerful about them.  To gather a bouquet of them on the counter top is like having a bevy of little fairies sparkling merry smiles into the room.

I had the lovely opportunity to spend time with my little sis from Spokane, and my niece!  They are adopted into my heart and family for always.  Last night another friend and I went to our 40th High School reunion.  It was so great to see so many people I haven't seen for so many years.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, sweet Friends!  Blessings and smiles to you, dear ones.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

What IS that in the Cat's Dish? -Postcard Friendship Friday #321

Due to the busy state of my life right now, I'm re-posting this funny postcard about cats.

I bought this postcard many years ago. It is a reproduction of an antique postcard, printed on 100% recycled paper, in the USA by the Evergreen Press in Walnut Creek, California.

I adore the rich colors, and the soft texture of fur and rug. The detail on the cat dish is beautiful. But yesterday, as I slipped my collection of postcards and cards into binders for safekeeping, I happened to look a little closer.

I did a double take. I suddenly wasn't sure if the one cat was exactly pleased with the other one.

And I have a question. What on earth IS that in the cat dish??? Anyone have any ideas?  It looks like a bug to me....Have a lovely weekend dear friends, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

My Fond Greetings

Here is yet another postcard from my "cyber" collection. I love the studied profusion and off kilter balance of this lovely flower heart.  To me, this looks like a harp.

I am in awe of these artists of old, who created such beautiful postcards.  They inspire me.

Have a lovely week!

Monday is the Fourth of July! -Postcard Friendship Friday #320

In America we celebrate our independence on the Fourth of July.

In years past, I have looked forward to the Fourth of July almost as much Christmas.  This is the second Fourth of July since my Beloved flew away to heaven, so it is a bittersweet holiday for me.  In my mind's eye, I can see my brawny husband striding through the crowds, greeting people, clapping them on the back, cracking jokes.  I can almost hear his laughter.  I miss him with all my heart during the holidays.  There is an ache in my heart that won't go away.  None the less--there is still joy and happiness to be found.

In our small town of Independence we celebrate with a parade, waterfront complete with live music, booths, food--all next to the Willamette river.  In the evening there are fireworks over the Willamette River--it is the best fireworks display this side of the Mississippi, or so I'm told.  (grin) Of course, we are all biased.  I think of all the parades which have happened since my home was built in 1896 and I marvel.

I've heard that better than 80,000 people (or more, this year) will be flooding into town this weekend for the holiday.  The Fourth also coincides with Western Days, so it will get a bit wild around here.

In the evening, we walk to the fireworks and back. For me, it is a cozy feeling to light a big bonfire in the fire pit out back, to roast marshmallows and watch all the people trying to leave town at the same time.

Have a blessed weekend, dear Friends.
