Greetings From Spring Valley -Postcard Friendship Friday #352

Greetings dear  Friends.  This beautiful postcard of white roses seemed perfect for today's blog. Did you know there is a certain language presented by flowers?  Books have been written about this.  According to the fascinating book Tussie Mussies, by Geraldine Adamich Laufer, in Victorian times, white roses carried the meaning of "unity, silence, keep my secret, I am worthy of you, love, respect and beauty."

I adore roses--my garden is filled with all colors and types of them.  June is when the roses begin to bloom.  I long for the lovely aroma of those lovely flowers.

Here in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon, Spring has sprung with a vengeance!  Last week almost overnight, daffodils and purple crocus burst from the ground and all the fruit trees were suddenly covered with masses of pink and white blossoms.

This morning the sun is peering through the clouds and hope fills the air.  It is going to be a beautiful day. There's something about this time of year which melts the heart with joy. This will be my third Spring without the love of my life.  He liked to work outside this time of year--I miss the camaraderie we shared working in the yard together.  Sometimes when I am outside doing the work which must be done, I fancy my Beloved is there beside me.

And so, Greetings from my own dear Spring Valley to you, dear ones.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Dear Little Children

I have missed you, dear ones--you know who you are.  I have been praying as have many others.  You are treasured more than you know.

I adore this Postcard.  Aren't these little ones darling?  Children are the same across the world.  This postcard actually reminds me of the artwork of my own Great Aunt Martina Gangle.  All her life she wore a scarf in just the way these children do.  I have fond memories of the time I spent with her when I was younger.  I didn't know then, that she was an important Oregon artist during the Great Depression.  She gently encouraged me when I drew pictures for her at family reunions.  I can still remember her affectionate smile and twinkling eyes.

Above is an example of Aunt Martina's artwork.  It is an excerpt from one of the murals she painted.  Ah, what a blessing to have such a precious heritage.

It is Springtime here in the valley.  I pray your days will be beautiful with joy, hope and peace.

Harps and Shamrocks -Postcard Friendship Friday #351

This wonderful card was in my precious Grammie Jenny's collection. It was printed in the USA on very thin fragile paper. The harp was embossed, then painted a shiny gold. This lovely bouquet of shamrock and green carnation seemed to be the perfect card for today!

An Irish Blessing
May those that love us, love us.
And those that don't love us, may God turn their hearts.
But, if He can't turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles
so we will know them by their limping.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, and Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Easter Egg in Spring Bouquet - Postcard Friendship Friday #350

The next holiday to come along is Easter. Easter eggs and the fun to be had with them makes this a marvelous holiday. I also love the stories of Easter--along with old movies shown this time of year, such as The Ten Commandments and The Robe.

This delightful postcard fills my eyes with its beauty and whimsey.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!

Bon Voyage -Postcard Friendship Friday #349

This wonderful old postcard is HUGE! It is printed on heavy stock and is 10 by six inches. At first I thought it was printed in the 1930's. However, I have since discovered this postcard was published in Bavaria around 1914. The artist's name is Ethel DeWees. Her initials are in the lower right-hand side.
.
I love the simplicity of the little girl's dress and hat. The look on her face speaks volumes, as she hands the boy a handful of yellow daisies.
.
The boy, however isn't quite sure what to do with those flowers, and seems a tad terrified! I enjoyed the boy's elegant clothing, complete with frills and captain's hat, along with that fancy, schmancy carpetbag suitcase.

The Lady and the Sheik -Postcard Friendship Friday #348

Back in the 1930's there were many films made about romance in the far East. This is a photo from one of those wonderful old movies. Their pose, the kiss trembling between them--well, it looks VERY romantic. (grin)

However looks are probably deceiving. Most likely these dancers are feeling quite uncomfortable! Cameras from that long-ago era took forever to take a picture.  The folks posing for a picture had to hold the stance without moving, for quite some time. How they held their smile and that sense of romance I cannot imagine!

Have a lovely day, dear Friends.  Happy Postcard Friendship Friday!
